Putin poses a real threat to France, believe 6 out of 10 French

Its invasion of Ukraine not only has raised awareness of European public opinion, but has also raised concern for its next move, or rather its next ‘victim’. And the concern about Putin’s aspirations does not only affect countries adjacent to Russia – absolutely indicative of the attitude of Sweden and Finland that after decades requested their NATO membership – but even further away, such as France. At least this results from the Elabe Institute polling results, which was carried out on behalf of the BFMTV television station. In particular, 61% of the French believe that Vladimir Putin represents a real threat to France’s security , compared to 24% that he believes is a threat to some EU countries but not to France and 15% who he believes poses no threat to France or any other EU member country. According to the same poll 60% of the French estimate that in time the president of Russia will attack a NATO Member State, particularly in neighbouring countries such as Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland. On the contrary, 23% of respondents believe that this will not happen. Also 54% appreciates that France should continue to strengthen Ukraine in its war against Russia, but noting that there are also some limits and that France should not come to war with Russia even if that means defeating Ukraine. On the contrary, 24% advocates a war without limits against Russia, while 21% appreciates that France should let Ukraine defend itself. Finally, as far as the party that the French trust most to face the war in Ukraine is concerned, 34 % states that it trusts Marie Lepin’s far-right party 32% that it trusts majority parties under Macron, 31% the centre-right Republicans and 24% the Socialists.
