Protection for the coming winter for the refugees in camps and hot spots

A non-governmental organisation, the Observatory of Human Rights (Human Rights Watch), comes to express the…
concern for the living conditions of the refugees in the camps and the hot spots, particularly in view of the coming winter.
The Observatory stresses that there is an urgent need to move the refugees to suitable facilities, as well as on top of that, the tents are flooding with the rains.
The united nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the Greek authorities, replacing, of course, tents with prefabricated housing units in some – more than 40 – camps all over Greece, while in 15 of the structures of hospitality designed improvements, such as installation of heating.
However according to the Watchtower, “many of the worst camps where they live, thousands of people, we remain essentially unfit for the winter.
The government states “that plans to close most of these facilities until January, but if asylum seekers have not been relocated to other appropriate locations, will soon find themselves exposed because of the deterioration of weather conditions, without a proper roof.”
For the immediate future, the Observatory suggests the appropriate configuration of the structures in order to address the winter – it considers, however, that in the long term the settlements should be removed, transmitting the Athenian Agency.
“With nearly 128 million euros provided by the European Commission to the Greek government, and 370 millions of euro have been given to aid organisations and international organisations, including the UNHCR, there is no excuse for the failure to provide humane and dignified reception conditions for asylum seekers” leads the organisation in its communication.
It should be noted that Amnesty International and Doctors without Borders, recent announcements have also expressed their concern about the future of the refugees ahead of winter.
