beheading and taking the hearts of more victims, in order to revenge for the slaughter of 56 of their comrades in another correctional institution for five days.
The massacre in the prison of Monte Cristo in the State Ροράιμα committed by members of the organization PCC (Administration of First Capital), São Paulo, and has raised concerns that the violence of recent months between rival criminal organisations that control the prisons in Brazil is out of control.
Members of the PCC were the victims of another massacre Sunday in a prison in the city of Manaus in the neighboring State of Amazonas, the worst that has been recorded in the prisons of Brazil for two decades.
As in Manaus, the victims were beheaded, ripped apart, according to the pictures that were released from inside the prison and which show dozens of bodies in a blood bath. A massacre happened in the context of the war between the rival gangs for control of the cocaine market.
“The massacre started at 02:00 in the morning (08:00 uk time). There was no exchange of fire, the victims were killed with sharp objects or improvised weapons,” said Ουζιέλ Castle, minister of Justice of the State Ροράιμα.

According to him, in the rural prisons of Monte Cristo, located next to the Boa Vista, capital of the State, are being detained with 1,400 people, number of double the normal capacity of the prison.
In the same prison, 10 prisoners were killed on October 16 during a conflict between rival criminal organizations. Some of the victims were beheaded or burned alive. The next day, in another prison in northern Brazil, in the State Ροντόνια, eight prisoners were murdered.
In the prison of Monte Cristo detained members of the gang CV from Rio de Janeiro who are allies of the FDN (the North Family), which is considered responsible for the massacre in the prison of Manaus on the night of Sunday to Monday.
The majority of the victims in Manaus were members of the PCC, an opponent of the CV.
Since then, the Castle has assured that the members of the rival gang “have been separated” and “the registered members of CV have been transferred” to other prisons.
According to him, the massacre of Monte Cristo “was an individual act members of the PCC against persons who are not connected with any organization.” “These are acts of extreme cruelty without any cause. We haven’t understood the reasons,” he added.
“Obviously this is not an act of retaliation of the PCC against the FDN”, rated by the side of the federal minister of Justice, Alexandre de Moraes.
The northern states of Brazil, bordering with Colombia, Peru and Bolivia are strategic areas for the gangs who wish to control the movement of cocaine.
According to the brazilian police, the FDN began to be created in 2007 in order to prevent the expansion of PCC, which wanted to control the State of Amazonas and, therefore, the route of cocaine.
Thursday, the Brazilian government announced the outline of its new national security plan, which includes mainly the construction of prisons in each of the 27 States of the country, as well as five federal maximum security prisons.
Brazil has the fourth largest population in prison in the world, with 620.000 prisoners, and the overcrowding in the penal institutions is an acute problem.
According to the sociologist Camila Nunes Dias professor at university of São Paulo, the massacres these are “announced tragedy” because of the tensions “between groups of prisoners and of improvisation of facilities”.
“Any proposal with immediate effect, such as the construction of new prisons, it does not solve the real problems. All it does is to satisfy public opinion in anticipation of the next drama,” he added.
From the side of the union of lawyers of Brazil announced its intention to bring the matter before the inter-american Court of Human Rights to impose sanctions against the government of the country “for the lack of concrete measures to solve the problem”.
