The iconic good-hearted sailor who first appeared in comic books in the late 20s, will be the subject of a new live action film by Chernin Entertainment and King Features. As Variety reports, the promising and highly budgeted production is currently under way without any further information being disclosed. The script is signed by Michael Caleo, while it is the first live-action re-emergence of the character after the 1980 film “Popeye”, starring Robin Williams (Robin Willians). Paramount Pictures’ film with a budget of $20 million was under Robert Altman’s directing instructions and recorded revenue of $60 million worldwide. The iconic sailor who likes to smoke a pipe and eat spinach getting supernatural powers this year celebrates his 95 years, after being first imprinted in the 1929 comic book “Thhimble Theater”, by hand Elzie Kr.
