The work, performed under the supervision of the competent archaeological service, as provided for, concerning the cleaning of the premises by the wild vegetation and the fallen building materials from the adjacent dilapidated buildings, which the municipality has secured markets and concessions and their owners in the previous period. The intervention of the Municipal Authority, within the framework of the overall programme of regeneration of the surrounding area of the two σπουδαιότατων of these monuments of the settlement.
It is recalled that the Municipality of Crete, has secured the ownership of several modern buildings of rounds from the two monuments – the majority of them arbitrary – and has already advanced to the relevant demolition work which will create a sufficient surrounding space around them, space necessary for the presentation. With the completion of the work and activities of the Municipal Authority, the two monuments are expected to be major attractions for the Malevizi, attracting many Greek and foreign visitors.
In a statement, the Mayor of Crete, Costas Μαμουλάκης: “we are Moving our interventions in the beautiful village of Rodia, showing off even more two unique treasures of the village: The Venetian villa of the Kallergis family, and the Church of our lady of Ροδέας. Two important monuments, with enormous historical and emotional value for the entire Municipality. But at the same time, we felt a central area of the settlement, improving the quality of life and the daily life of the residents of the Pomegranate.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank once again the competent archaeological service and the archaeologist – responsible of the project mr. Eleni Kanaki for the excellent and highly efficient our cooperation, as well as the President of the Local Community Pomegranate Yannis Stratakis, but all the members of the Local Council for their contribution to the very good result”.
The mayor was accompanied by the deputy mayor of Mars Saloustros, the Chairman of the Sq.K. Pomegranate Yannis Stratakis, member of the.P. Antonis Roditis and the expert consultant, archaeologist George Τζωράκης.
