Piece of ice “landed” on the roof of their house while they were sleeping

The Partrick Boyle, his wife Rachel and their two teenage daughters were sleeping at their house in Essex when all of a sudden they heard a loud noise and thought that a bomb dropped on their house.
When the couple came out fearful out of the house to see what’s going on, he saw a large hole in the roof from an object pinned there before it ended up in the garden of the house. A few minutes later found out that it was a large piece of ice that had landed literally on the roof of their home. The family lives near Stansted airport, and assumes that the ice fell from a plane. Patrick Boyle said according to the newspaper the Sun: “Honestly, I thought it was a bomb initially, it sounded like an explosion. I looked out the window and saw a piece hanging down. I thought he had fallen in the gutter and I went outside to check it out. When I got out, I couldn’t believe it. There were debris everywhere, and these huge chunks of ice. Each piece was the size of a fist and it was shattered when they fell to the ground. The original size was about the size of a football judging by the hole left in the roof. We’re lucky that we’re alive”
O 49χρονος save a few pieces in the freezer as proof of the fact, but most of the pieces were melted at the time of the event. The couple came in contact with the Civil Aviation authority to find out if the ice could have fallen from a plane. “They said that it can happens once in a while, but they had an indifferent attitude. Sooner or later, someone will be really unlucky and it may cost him his life. Someone must take responsibility,” added Patrick.
The Civil Aviation authority said that it is indeed possible that the ice fell from a plane. A spokesman said: “it Could have happened even though the ice is very rarely falls from an aircraft. Can this also be the result of meteorological phenomena. Have been reported approximately 30 cases of falling ice every year, although we are not sure if a lot of these incidents are the result of ice that fell from an aircraft.”
