Recep Tayyip Erdogan has ratified the constitutional reform that opens the way for a presidential system and the strengthening of the powers of the, it was announced today by the office of the vice-president of the government Îουμάν ΚουÏτουλμοÏÏ‚ said that the referendum for the reform will take place on 16 April, adding that “God willing, Turkey will enter a new era in the evening of 16 April”
Erdogan argues that the reform will provide stability in a period of turmoil and prevent a return to the fragile alliances of the past. The opponents express fears that it will mean a strengthening of the authoritarian governance.
