National football – Gustavo Poget: “Surprising situation but we will decide in April on my contract”

Greece’s coach referred again to his contract with EPO, noting that in April there will be relevant contacts for his renewal. Speaking to Skysports, Pogett spoke of “a strange situation”, since it is still not given that he will be in Euro with National football, even if Greece qualifys for the final phase, but pointed out that he has been at more difficult times as a football player. Poget’s statements On the subject of his contract : “I have nothing to hide about my situation. My contract expires on March 31st, it’s a strange situation. Not for me, as a player he was finishing my contract and it was harder because I had to play, but I still wasn’t afraid and I played every time until the last minute. It’s easier as a coach, there’s no risk, but it creates uncertainty, especially for my associates. They’d like to know what’s going to happen next month. It’s not new to me, maybe I expected something to happen earlier, but I dealt with the situation in a normal way and we’ll decide in April. It’s weird, and for the players, we had a really good relationship. When things go well, players feel that they are in a good place, we spend time together, win together, celebrate and get in touch often, because I don’t spend time with them in training on a daily basis. There’s a connection outside football. The worst thing for them would be if we qualified and I was not there on Euro. Some say it’s not possible, but why not? It’s football! I’m trying to put these things out, that’s what I’ll tell the players when we meet. We should focus on games and see what happens next.” For Ulysses Vlachodim: “We must all know that in football things change very quickly. Vlachodemus was number 1 in a leading club (p.s. Benfica), not only in Portugal, but also in European events. He was always key, won titles and played every year in the Champions League. When you change the team, a lot can happen. Other people, other coaches, other ways of understanding football and often the situation is difficult. But the data on the National Team is completely different. For example, I have to make decisions to play the one I know, the one I trust the most and the one who’s in the best position. There are different perspectives, but I have my own ideas and the results will show whether it’s a decision I made was or not. I feel very comfortable with my decisions. I know the players well, I know what they can give us and I trust them when they get on the field.”
