Mytilene: For the first time in the hospital of the island surgery of Amea

The in-house was successfully completed and the doctors were talking about the surgery, which was first performed… For the first time, a pilot surgery under general anesthesia took place at Mytilene Hospital A person with special needs and especially a 19-year-old in the autism spectrum. The surgery aimed at the total recovery of oral cavity diseases in a session, based on a treatment plan involving exports, heart attacks, gingivitis therapy and fluorescence, which was prepared in a previous clinical and radiographic examination. “The above,” says the President of Mytilene Hospital, George Kampouris, “is the result of the successful completion of a long-term effort that began with communication and a first record of the needs of persons and associations of disabled persons of Lesvos, continued with the equipment of the surgical room with a wheeled vehicle that enriched the possibilities beyond others for dental surgery treatments (fractions), but also periodontal diseases.” It should be noted here that important stations along the way to the implementation of such surgery outside Athens were also the visit-educational visit to the hospital “Asclepiion” Voulas, which is considered the centre of reference in the country as regards the specific types of treatments, but also the participation of the joint group of the Departments of Dentistry and Anesthesiology of Mytilene Hospital at the Panhellenic Conference of Hospital Dentistry and Dentistry Special Care. The team of the Dental Department consisted of Catherine Hatzilia (Director), Stergios Vote (Associative Doctor) and Adriani Pappas (Nisiletria). The team of the Anesthesiological Department was attended by Lucia Makra (Director), Constantina Sgourou (Chief I) and Antonia Georgakelli (Nisiultria). “Our goal” points out the President of Mytilene Hospital “is the establishment of regular monthly surgeries under general anesthetics, which will serve lists of people of disabled over 16 years of age, in order to satisfy the standing request to meet the needs of these sensitive fellow people in our hospital, without requiring a move to hospitals in Athens.”
