Municipality of Piraeus: Presented Piraeus Makerspace at the 2nd International Exhibition of Circular Economy “Forward Green”

The Municipality of Piraeus participated on 6 to 9 March 2024 in the 2nd International Exhibition of Circular Economy “Forward Green” as part of the Thessaloniki International Fair. He was invited by RIS to present the Piraeus Makerspace Cyclic Economy workshop that operates in the auditorium of the former SYP, as a successful example of re-use of materials and circular economy in the urban area. The presentation and all meetings of the Municipality of Piraeus were hosted at RIS stand 15. The events of the booth were attended by G.G. of Waste Management Coordination Mr. Emmanuel Grafakos, G.G. of Spatial Planning and Urban Environment Mr. Euthymios Bakoyannis, as well as representatives of other bodies such as EOAN, SKG Makers from the Municipality of Thessaloniki, the Centre for the Creative Re-use of Materials DIDYMA, Brainbox and Papajim, presenting corresponding successful practices of circular economy. From the Municipality of Piraeus, Deputy Mayor of Planning and Sustainable Development, Mr.Dimitris Karydis, as well as the Director of Planning and Sustainable Development, Mrs. Maria Poulou, presented the workshop. It was presented in detail: the steps to implement the workshop, such as finding the appropriate space, upgrading of the architectural and electronic equipment, the operational restructuring of the ex-SYP amphitheatre and its configuration in a laboratory at the same time as other functions; the funding used to create it, such as the European project Pop Machina, resources of the TREATMENT PROGRAM, the own resources of the Municipality of Piraeus ü the modern equipment available, such as a range of machinery and tools, digitally controlled, such as CNC Router & Laser Cut cutters, 3D printers, Arduino, Thermoforming machine, digital sewing machines, AR-VR, but also traditional material processing tools ü the laboratories implemented with the possibility of processing wood, soft metals, fabric, plastics and paper, with a view to the re-use of materials. The workshops are aimed at familiar or non-users, with special care for the inclusion of disabled ü successful examples of re-use of materials and even for the benefit of the school community and the city such as, e.g. roofs of textiles or sailing sails, green walls of re-use of wood, signs or recycling bins of wood or paper, water-perfect concretes of concrete or ceramic material, sound absorbent panels of wood or alpha block or gender dow, urban games – gardens – seats or other equipment for pocket parks of wood or dow and other materials Ü presentation of the participation of trainees in the entire educational process, cooperation with the General Lykeia, Finally, it was noted that the Municipality of Piraeus has undertaken a study on the energy and operational upgrading of the entire building of the former SYP and has included in the Green Fund of the development of the entire environment and adjacent Community, strengthening the district.
