Meloni sued a writer who called her a “neonazi”

She filed a lawsuit against an Italian writer, who had stated that Italy’s Prime Minister “is in her soul.” Philologist, writer and historian, Luciano Canfora, speaking to high school students said that the president of the “Brothers of Italy”, Georgia Meloni, “within her soul is a neo-Nazi and for this reason she immediately joined the Ukrainian neo-Nazis.” The trial for the case was set for April 16 and Canfora is charged with slander. According to the Italian press, over 30 well-known links and organisations in the country, along with 250 intellectuals, signed a statement of support for Canforas, in which it is stressed that “it is a legitimate exercise of the right of criticism in the field of politics” and that “the ultimate goal of Meloni is to harm the Constitution-sanctioned right of free thought”. The Italian Prime Minister, for her part, has stressed that “this is unacceptable, especially because it is pronounced by a man who should be involved in education and education while, ultimately, making low-level propaganda, addressing young people.” Commentators, in Italy, point out that, traditionally, the Prime Minister so far withdrew any lawsuits for defamation, just taking over the country’s leadership.
