Margaritis Schinas: The joint degree in EU Universities is an important step

The Vice-President of the Commission spoke of the European which in a few years’ time will find his place alongside the Schengen regime, the Erasmus+ programme, the single market and the euro, as a European achievement. “I have no doubt that in a few years from now the European degree will find its place alongside the Schengen regime, Erasmus+ the single market, the euro, as a tangible European achievement that makes the citizens’ Europe more understandable and more present,” said Margaritis Schinas, on the Commission proposal. According to him, the European degree will be a new reference point in Europe and Brussels’ response to the demands of European universities, young people and industry. “Education is a beacon of European lifestyle and a promise to new generations. The European degree we are proposing today will create a mutually beneficial situation for all, students, teachers, employers, and our competitiveness,” he said. Please specify that two directions are provided for the degree. The first relates to a European degree mark for common curricula that meet European criteria. The second direction ‘concerns a fully European degree awarded by more universities at the same time’. According to the Vice-President of the Commission, the European degree will enable universities to cooperate, in the interests of students, teachers, employers and Europe’s competitiveness.
