ManpowerGroup: Average recruitment prospects in Greece – IT stands out

A moderate recruitment climate is expected in Greece for the 2nd quarter of 2024 with the Total Employment Perspectives being set at 6%, according to the Group’s latest Intent Survey. Employment prospects in Greece have been weakened by 6% since the previous quarter and by 2% compared to the same period toy 2023. Specifically, out of 525 Greek employers, 30% of employers expect an increase in recruitment, 19% decrease, while 47% say no change, according to the ManpowerGroup survey. Employment prospects expect an increase in recruitment to 6 out of 9 branches from April to June 2024, while 2 sectors predict a reduction and 1 branch predicts no change. Informatics, the most competitive branch in Greece with NEO 43 The IT industry records the largest increase in recruitment intentions, increasing by 32% from the previous quarter and by 37% from the 2nd quarter of 2023. In fact, this quarter reflects the highest employment prospects recorded in Informatics since the 1st quarter of 2022. Greece holds the world’s first place in terms of quarterly growth in the IT sector, surpassing the average quarterly increase in this sector by 33%. Communication services follow with the intention of hiring to reach 25%, the health and bio-sciences sector to 17% while Financial & Real Estate is followed by 12%. While zero recruitment prospects are reflected in the Energy and Public Benefit Services sector. Charalambos Kazantzidis, CEO of ManpowerGroup Greece said: “The uncertainty on a global scale due to the tense geopolitical situation in Ukraine and the major election contests set for this year, form a climate of caution, reflected in slowing down recruitment with employers preparing for a potentially unstable quarter. In Greece, despite the challenges, the capacity of sectors such as Informatics, Communication Services and Health/ Life sciences are a reference point for a durable labour market. Digital transition in all sectors of the economy and the development of technology create considerable demand for IT, software, data security and other relevant sectors. At the same time, the development of telecommunications, networks and digital communication creates a need for specialized professionals, such as network engineers and communication technology specialists. Finally, increasing health awareness creates increased demand for health and bioscience professionals. These areas are top priorities due to the growing need for skilled professionals and the opportunities for development that they offer to the modern economy. “ Two of the three regions in Greece expect human resources growth The region of the rest of Greece expects the strongest recruitment intentions in the 2nd quarter of 2024 (29%). This region is the only one reporting an increase from the previous quarter and since last year, increasing by 35 points from the 1st quarter of 2024 and 17 points from the 2nd quarter of 2023. This quarter presents the highest employment prospects recorded in the region since the 1st quarter of 2022. The Greater Region of Attica (14%) follows, while Greek employers in Northern Greece do not foresee any change. Optimism in recruitment intentions in large enterprises with 5000+ employees Greek employers in 5 of the 6 sized organizations predict an increase in staff in the 2nd quarter of 2024, while 1 size of organization predicts a decrease. Since the first quarter of 2024, recruitment intentions have been weakened to 3 out of 6 body sizes and have been enhanced to 3 body sizes. Greek employers in large companies with over 5000 employees are the most optimistic (22%), rising 13 units from the previous quarter and a unit from the second quarter of 2023. These organizations report the greatest increase in expectations since the last quarter. Employment prospects in the world Research reflects a reduction in global employment prospects for the second consecutive quarter, according to 40,385 employers in 42 countries in the world, with total employment prospects falling from 26 to 22 percentage points. At regional level, the slowdown in recruitment is a common denominator, with all global regions reporting a reduction in employment prospects. North America (31%) maintains the highest recruitment intentions, followed by the Asia-Pacific region (27%), South and Central America (+19%) and Europe, the Middle East and Africa (+15%).
