Greece the use of these digital tools still remains today – to a large extent, untapped. According to data of the European Commission, the use of digital tools by the Greek small and medium-sized businesses remains below the european average.
Although the dynamics of social media in the country is in line with the european average (18% in Greece, compared to 18% on average in the European Union), online sales of goods and services fall short significantly (6.1% in Greece, 16% on average in the European Union).
The above items were identified in the first event, “SMB – Boost Your Business” in Greece, organised by the Facebook and the Commercial and Industrial Chamber of Athens. In the context of the event analysed in detail the means, offered by digital technologies for the development of small and medium-sized enterprises, the strengthening of their performance and their entry into new, international markets.
The wide range of opportunities, which offer digital tools, such as social networking sites, make obvious to the numerical data. Especially in regards to the Facebook, it is the largest social networking platform, which allows businesses to come into contact with 1.7 billion customers around the world, including 4.7 million customers in Greece.
The numbers
Today, over 60 million small and medium-sized businesses worldwide actively using Facebook to promote their services, as the platform is a channel of communication with existing and potential customers, including the majority of people have cell phones and use Facebook. In Greece, the number of such persons amounts to 3.8 million. the month.
Statistics show that 89% of people who use Facebook in Greece, is connected to the corporate page of at least one small or medium enterprise. On average, people are on Facebook on their mobile 14 times a day. In Greece, 3 million. people use Facebook daily from mobile.
Small businesses are the backbone of economies all over the world and Greece is no exception. Small and medium-sized enterprises (Smes) represent 99.8% of all businesses and 89% of people on Facebook in Greece is connected with an sme.
