LARCO: Continued occupation of the plant – On 31 March workers’ contracts expire

In occupation of the LARCO plant in Larymna they moved on yesterday (27.03. 24) workers in LARCO. They shut down the gates and the administration building themselves, asking for the factory to reopen. It is typical that workers’ unions in LARCO have culminated in their efforts in recent times calling for “the decisions that have imposed poverty on the region and unemployment on workers’ families to be overturned”. Today (28.03.24), they have identified a rally in the center of Athens with a pre-concentration at 4 pm in Omonia and a gathering an hour later at the Ministry of Finance. “We are determined to ensure our work and step up the mobilisations,” notes, in a statement, the workers’ union in LARCO, accusing the government of “implementing criminal policy that leads LARCO to closure and mining wealth in large capital”. They have been talking about terrifying effects on their lives, their course and their families for the last four years and, as they note, “this whole scene has a terrifying impact on the wider area as dozens of professions lived by LARCO”. It is recalled that since February 2020 LARKO has been placed under special management status and for over a year it has been a preferred investor for the lease of the Larymna plant (by TAIPED) and the sale of the Evia and Kastoria mines. The LARCO plant has been put out of operation since July 2022, workers are paid from the state budget, while its contracts expire on 31 March 2024.
