Kerameos for email Asimakopoulou: ‘Research to the end’

“Research to the end” responds the Minister of Interior on the controversial case with her e-mails to out-of-state Greeks, which led to a domino development with departures and resignations, in view of the European elections. Speaking to ANT1 on Saturday morning (16.03. 24) Niki Kerameas recalled that from the first moment that the first complaints about e-mails left the office of Anna Michelle Asimakopoulou came to light, in order to shed plenty of light on the case. “We did what we said from the first moment, an investigation to the end so that there was no shadow at all,” the minister said, stressing that this was done within just two weeks of the moment the issue arose. “From the first moment in the interior ministry together with Mr. Livianos, we gave a directive to conduct an internal audit to see all the procedures, to see if there is room for improvement,” she said, adding that there were complaints that had to be resolved. He even added that the audit is being carried out to establish in depth the adequacy of the safety of all procedures. “If the finding comes and suggests that we have ways to improve procedures, we here are to go forward and do it overall for better protection of personal data,” Mrs. Kerameos said. He clarified that the issue concerns the protection of personal data rather than the electoral processes or the epistolic vote, recalling that this was 8 months before the vote on the epistolic vote and even preceded the formation of the new government of the New Republic. With regard to the responsibilities that opposition parties are trying to blame for, the minister commented that “this is the absurdity in all its greatness… Populism also has a limit”. “And in any case we are talking about illegal energy of certain persons at a specific time,” he stressed.
