An apprentice pilot and his instructor were killed when their small plane crashed in flight with a passenger near . The plane crash occurred a short distance from a Kenya capital airport, Nairobi, police announced on Tuesday 5 March. Kenya’s Civil Aviation Service said it is investigating the causes of the “unfortunate”, in which a Cessna training aircraft of Ninety-Nines Flying School and a Dash 8 of the Safarilink aviation company were involved. He didn’t specify how many people were killed. Nairobi police chief, Adamson Bugay, said the dead are two, the apprentice pilot and his trainer. The company Ninety-Nines Flying Club, which on its website appears as a “private and commercial sector” pilot school, confirmed the accident, without other details, when the French Agency contacted it. For its part, Safarilink reported that 39 passengers and 5 flight crew members headed to the resort Diane heard “a strong explosion shortly after takeoff” from Wilson Airport, this morning. The plane immediately returned to the airport, although none of the passengers and crew were injured. Safarilink serves 18 destinations in Kenya and neighboring Tanzania. Wilson small airport is located in the south of Nairobi and from there mostly depart domestic flights bound for the country’s coast and national parks. It is 15 km from Jomo Kenyata International Airport, the largest in the country.
