International Museum Day 18th May – Guest Museum this year the National Archaeological

has been selected by the International Council of Museums (ICOM) is the National Archaeological museum, an honour due both to the promotion of culture and the national character of the collections, which represent the universal values.
Within the framework of International Museum Day, established by ICOM in 1977 in an effort to highlight the role of these institutions in modern society, the museums open that day, the “gates” with free entry to the public and by a number of events surround the celebration in a range of several days. Among these are thematic tours, guided tours and educational programmes to lectures, workshops, exhibitions, screenings and a variety of other activities.
Every year this day is dedicated to a specific topic relating to museums and the protection of cultural heritage. For 2016 the International Council of Museums (ICOM) has chosen the theme “Museums and cultural landscapes”. The Museums are directly connected with the landscape that surrounds it, the main mission of which is the conservation and management of cultural heritage, whether it is located within the building envelope of the museum or outside of it. “We must, therefore, providing know-how, to expand their activities on the wider environment συνδιαμορφώνοντας the cultural landscape, to become dynamic centers of culture,” as stated by the Greek section of ICOM.
In accordance with the detailed program of this year’s events (which is attached), the National Archaeological Museum has the honor of Wednesday 18 May 2016, from 7 in the afternoon will address greetings and speeches of the minister of Culture & Sport Aristidis Baltas, the president of the Greek section of ICOM Alexandra Bunia, the archaeologist Petros Themelis and the director of the National Archaeological Museum Maria Lagogianni. It will follow a concert with works of Astor Piazzolla by the orchestra of contemporary music of ERT, with soloists Christos Zerbinos, as well as recitation of the 24 ραψωδιών of the Odyssey from the National Theatre in the hall of the Altar (12:00-24:00 with a break from 18.00 -20.30), action – harbinger of the great periodic report “Odyssey” preparing the Museum for the anniversary of 150 years since the foundation of the.
