International Day of Persons with Disabilities

The international Day of Persons with Disabilities was established to be celebrated on 3 December since 1992, because on that day the …the UN General Assembly adopted the Action Programme for Persons with Special Needs. The purpose of the day is to remind governments and all citizens the right of persons with disabilities to full participation in society.
This year’s European Day of Persons with Disabilities marks the 10th anniversary of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD). This has been the focus of a two-day conference organised by the European Commission and the EDF (European Forum for the Disabled) on 28-29 November 2016.
In Greece, the Convention on the rights of persons with disabilities was signed and ratified by the Greek Parliament with the Law 4074/2012 (government GAZETTE A-88/11.4.2012). Key guiding principles of the Convention is, inter alia, respect for human dignity and independence, equality of opportunity, effective participation and inclusion in society, accessibility and respect for the developing abilities.
On the occasion of the “international Day of Persons with Disabilities, 3 December” the Region of Attica in cooperation with the Movement of Artists with Disabilities organised the event “Cinema for ALL and ALL – 912 minutes accessible cinema experience’ is on Friday 2 December from 17.00-01.30 night at the Greek film archive foundation (Iera Odos 48 & Megalou.
