India: “Block” on Russian oil from the Giant tanker on which sanctions were imposed

They stopped accepting its refineries, which is transported by tankers of PJSC Sovcomflot due to American sanctions, further complicating the trade that has flourished after the invasion of Ukraine two years ago, according to a Bloomberg report. Private and state producers, including the largest – Indian Oil Corp. – have stopped receiving shipments of Russian oil if these are on Sovcomflot tankers, said people who know the issue. Refinery owners in India thoroughly examine the ownership of each ship to ensure that they are not linked to the company, or other groups subject to sanctions, added, asking not to be named because the information is private. According to Bloomberg, the wider reaction follows a similar move of India’s largest private refinery, Reliance Industries Ltd., reported earlier this week. Increased control of the tanker giant appears to have co-operated other oil tankers carrying Russian oil, with two ships waiting several weeks off the South Asian coast without any indication of when they will unload. Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum Corp., Hindustan Petroleum Corp., Mangalore Refinery & Petrochemicals Ltd. and Nayara Energy Ltd. – belonging 49% to Russian Rosneft PJSC – did not respond immediately to emails requesting comments.
