In RENCO – TERNA S.A. the construction of Microsoft’s 1st Data Center

The construction of its first Data Center in the wider region of the Eastern Attica Regional Unit begins, with the award of a competition to RENCO in collaboration with TERNA S.A. Microsoft’s Data Centre is an industrial type facility consisting mainly of mechanical and electrical data storage and processing equipment in Cloud and is structured as a main equipment Building (ATH04 Building) and a Management Building (Admin Block) accompanied by a number of supporting facilities and infrastructure in the environment, while its design follows the LEED certification requirements (Gold Grade). The construction object corresponding to the contract is EUR 100 million (including VAT) and provides for the completion of studies, construction and entry into operation of Microsoft’s first Data Center of a total installed capacity of 19,2MW in Spata. Construction work is due to begin in the next period. Referring to the undertaking of the project, the CEO of TERNA S.A., Christos Panagiotopoulos, said: “We are particularly pleased that our consortium with RENCO prevailed in such a great competition, for such an important and demanding project. Once again, it proves our ability to distinguish ourselves through competition procedures thanks to the excellent know-how, experience and reliability that we have built after half a century of TERNA’s activity in the construction sector. We are sure that with RENCO’s valuable cooperation we will respond well to Microsoft’s expectations and trust, making a great technological investment for Greece a reality.” “This is an excellent result for RENCO and TERNA S.A,” noted RENCO President Giovanni Gasparini, referring to the prevalence of the two companies in the competition. He went on to say that: “It is proof that our Italian know-how, skills and professionalism continue to add value to our work, so that multinationals operating around the world, such as Microsoft, trust us. The Data Centre will be developed in a 22.3 hectares section of the total area of 85 hectares in the business park Spaton and will also include the construction of supporting facilities as well as water storage infrastructure. All operations will be carried out in accordance with LEED requirements for environmental energy sustainability. This project represents an excellent opportunity for RENCO and TERNA to demonstrate their commitment to innovation and sustainability. We are proud to work with large customers, such as Microsoft and all companies involved in the project. Our vision is to create a state-of-the-art, energy efficient and environmentally friendly Data Center, which will function as a model of excellence.” “Another milestone is the assignment of this project that marks in essence and the start of work for Microsoft’s first Data Center. It is an important moment for the country as an investment of hundreds of millions comes into being. We are pleased that our escorts on this route are remarkable partners such as TERNA with RENCO with significant experience in making data centers,” said CEO Microsoft for Greece, Cyprus & Malta, Janna Andronopoulou.
