The network remains officially in a test version (beta) incorporating improvements and expanding constantly with new hubs. Even so, however, remains faster than the commercially available connections in the american megalopolis. Indicative is that in accordance with measurements of the Verge, the speeds of download and upload was greater than 300 Mbps.
To use the network, interested parties will have to go through a login screen, where they are asked to enter the e-mail. According to the executives of the LinkNYC e-mail addresses are collected simply for informational purposes and is not sold or distributed to third parties.
By logging in this simple way, the user can remain connected to the entire network, regardless of the hub which is closer to any given time.
By mid-July, the city of New York is planning the installation of 500 hubs in various points of the urban fabric. With the completion of the project provides for the installation of 7,500 hubs in all five boroughs of the city.
The first hubs of the network, LinkNYC were installed in parts of the city already since last December, but their activation was at the end of last month. Each hub includes two USB ports for charging devices, touch screen for browsing the Internet and two televisions diagonal 55 inch for display ads.
