In 2026 the upgraded Paros airport – 9 months late in the projects will be ready

On his first extension, almost 9 months, he took the major project to develop and improve the New’s infrastructure, which amounts to 33 million euros (plus VAT). According to a decision by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, the total deadline for completion of the projects was postponed by 265 days. While initially, on the basis of the contract signed by the Contractor Intrakat in early 2023, the project was planned to be completed in 30 months and by 11 July 2025, now as the closing date for closure of the works was 1 April 2026. The reasons given for this extension relate to the lack of inert materials for the construction of the works and the difficulty of transferring them to the island, with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport not “seeing” the sole responsibility of Intrakat although it will reasonably be compensated in the context of the legal review. In any case, however, the project of upgrading the infrastructure of Paros Airport “measures” 9 months of delay, based on the new timetables. The improvement of the infrastructure of Paros Airport, which has been operating since 2016 and has been built entirely by Intrakat, will help significantly to better serve both the significant number of visitors on the island, which has been increasing continuously in recent years, and permanent residents. Indicatively, more than 176,000 people were flown to and from the island of Paros during the summer period of 2022. With the construction of new projects at the airport, the island of Paros will gain better connectivity with the mainland and abroad and will be an essential transport hub in the heart of the Cyclades. The benefits of upgrading the airport include expanding the tourist market of the domestic and external markets, increasing employment with new jobs to be created both during the implementation of the projects and during the operation of the airport and attracting new investments. The project includes the construction of a new terminal building of a total area of approximately 12,000 sq.m. and the configuration of this environment and the internal airport road service network, the two-sided extension of the existing runway of landings/offs total by 400 meters, the construction of an extended air parking floor and an extended runway of landings, the construction of a new control tower and fire station etc.
