Imathia: 7 arrests for illegal pesticides from Turkey

A spiral from which he introduced and smuggled into Greece illegally, was uncovered by the Police. In particular, the authorities in Imathia arrested seven people, five Greeks and two foreigners for illegal pesticides and against them a case for gang membership and smuggling was formed. In particular, the men had set up a criminal group, aimed at illegally importing illegal pesticides into the country and further moving them, obtaining an illegal economic benefit. As part of an organized police operation, the day before yesterday (23 March 2024) in a rural area of Imathia, they were located at the time when they were transporting quantities of illegal pesticides from a freight vehicle, which were carried by the 2 foreigners, to two cars, on board by the 4 Greeks, who were arrested. The fifth Greek was spotted at a nearby point on board a car, overseeing the site and at the sight of police officers developed speed in order to escape, however soon afterwards he was spotted and arrested. In a search carried out on the truck 680 packages and 318 containers of illegal pesticides were found and 98 packages were seized with contraband pesticides. A total of 778 kg and 306 litres of illegal pesticides were seized, which did not, as required, bear a label with a Greek inscription and instructions for use, nor a product authorisation number and a marketing authorisation, while legal taxes and duties had not been paid for them. The arrested, with the case-file formed against them, were taken to the Prosecutor of Primary Beroia.
