Himara: Appointed Mayor Gergi Goro Arrested

By order of the SPAK Special Prosecutor’s Office the acting mayor Himaras, Gergie Goro, was arrested on Saturday afternoon. According to Albanian media, four more people are reported to have ended up in handcuffs. His arrest was made following a complaint by elected mayor Himaras, Freddie Beleri. Goros and another person identified as Mihalaq Bonjaku were arrested, while three others were placed under house arrest. Thus, arrests are reported to be related to the strategic investment property of Artan Gaçi, wife of former Foreign Minister and former Albanian Defence Minister Olta Xhaçka. On the other hand, Mihallaq Bonjaku, who claimed that his property had been stolen, or rather part of the property, for which Artan Gaçi, had been declared a strategic investor and had begun building a luxury resort. As he states, his property was fenced and not allowed in. We recall that Goro remained in the position of mayor of Himara, even though he lost the 14th May election to Freddie Beleri, who is being held in prison for buying votes.
