Helen Foureira talked about her experiences with racism: ‘Come on, Albania’

Her own experiences around him, described her, regarding comments she has previously received about her origins, and also talked about an incident that happened with her mother and son. After the homophobic episode that happened at Aristotle Square in Thessaloniki, a few days ago, Helen Foureira reported that she is afraid for her child and the way she will grow up with what is happening in society. The singer also spoke of the racism she has accepted as a child. “Half say “let people do whatever they want” and when they go home they say “if my son gay I’ll go crazy”. I raise a child and when I saw what happened in Thessaloniki I was very scared. I was not afraid that my son would fall victim to bulling, I was afraid my son would not become a perpetrator,” the singer said. “I, as a child, have heard the Albanian, come on, the Albanian. I have heard it too many times,” confessed Helen Foureira and then described an incident with her son and mother. “It’s my son and he’s come to my room with my mom and he started playing with my bags, lipstick. And my mom tells him completely unconsciously “no, what do you want, you’re a man.” Says one, swallowing a little weird. The kid gets a lipstick, “don’t touch that, you’re a man” my mother’s a very open-minded man. I’m telling her not to say that again, I don’t want his subconscious to pass that you’re a man. Growing up to feel like he has to be a man,” said Helen Foureira.
