Gunmen raided in a prison in the Philippines releasing 158 prisoners

with ties to muslim rebels have attacked a jail early today in the southern part of the Philippines, killing a guard and freeing over 150 prisoners, announced the police.
The southeast asian country has suffered for decades from insurgency of muslim rebels in the southern islands, with president Rodrigo Ντουτέρτε trying to promote peace in general in the country, with a population of mostly catholics.
The gunmen opened fire on guards, the city Κινταπαουάν, at approximately 1:00 am.m. local time today (7:00 pm.m. last night, uk time), according to statements of the prison guard Peter Μπόνγκατ at a local radio station. From 1.511 prisoners, 158 managed to escape, and 4 were arrested.
“It was well organized. The escapees used blankets for their escape. (…) We have unleashed chase,” said the Μπόνγκατ.
He added that, according to initial information, the leader of the rebels belong to the Islamic Liberation Front Moro.
In 2014, the government signed a peace agreement with the Front, the largest group of muslim rebels, but the conflict with smaller groups continue.
