Greece – Kazakhstan: The national football team broke every record

Or took the first step of qualifying in and now remains the second in Georgia on Tuesday. In fact, the step became impressive, as it was accompanied by 5-0 over Kazakhstan, which is one of the eight biggest victories in the history of the National team. However, it is the widest victory in our history in a playoff or barrage or knockout match. The remaining victories of such or larger caliber were either in friendly or in a phase of qualifying EURO groups. These are: 25.11.1949 (friendly) Greece – Syria 8.0 11.10.1978 (prokr. EURO) Greece – Finland 8-1 07.12.1939 (Balkanic) Greece – Bulgaria 6-1 10.10.1990 (friendly) Greece – Egypt 6-1 15.11.1995 (proc. EURO) Greece – Faeroe Islands 5-0 17.11.2007 (proc. EURO) Greece – Malta 5-0 10.09.2023 (proc. EURO) Greece – Gibraltar 5-0 21.03.2024 (proc. EURO) Greece – Kazakhstan 5-0 Four goals in the first half! Our team “cleared” the game from the first half, where it scored four goals, which had to happen since 6 September 2016 in Gibraltar (4-1 from the first half that was the final score) for the World Cup qualifiers. In a home match we had four goals to score in the first half since November 10, 2001, when we had prevailed in a friendly 4-2 (4-1 half) of Estonia. It is characteristic that it was Greece’s last game in “Nikos Goumas”, the old stadium of AEK. The best half in our history of course is that of 1978, when before we reached the final 8-1 with Finland, we had already preceded 5-0 in the half. The first 45 minutes with Kazakhstan is the second best in history. Four different scorers! But what Greece has managed for the first time is to score four different football players in the first half! Bakasetas, Pelkas, Ioannidis and Kurbelis. In the other cases when we had scored so many goals at halftime we had no more than three different scorers. Bakasettas caught Anastopoulos and Iron Tasos Bakasettas, who opened the score with a penalty, reached 14 goals with the National jersey and caught George Sideris in the 10th place of all-time scorers. In fact, of these 14, he has scored nine goals within 21 months, from June 2022 to today! Having played 19 games in this space. At the same time he scored his sixth goal with a penalty, which only Nikos Anastopoulos has managed to score, namely six goals with a penalty. Bakasettas has performed seven penalty shootouts, as did Anastopoulos. In fact, the others who make up the first five have all hit by seven! National players with most penalty goals: Nikos Anastopoulos 6 (in 7) Tasos Bakasetas 6 (in 7) Vassilis Tsiartas 5 (in 7) Angelos Basinas 5 (in 7) Dimitris Saravakos 4 (in 7) Interests… Dimitris Pelkas followed at just 15’, showing stability and duration, as in his last eight games he counts three goals, four assists and a winning penalty. He had two assists in the game, as he had made a total of 39 previous appearances! The 2-0 in the 15’ of the race is not the fastest 2-0 in our history. In 2001 in Estonia friendly the score was 2-0 from 9’, with two goals by Demi Nikolaides.
