Shortly after 1:30 noon on 20 March they were “freezing” at the Air Force General Staff. Another one fell down on Psathura Island. The success is that the pilot was rescued and hospitalized at 251 General Aviation Hospital in Athens. A Block 52 that took off from Larissa in formation 4, fell to Psathura and immediately began the rescue investigation process. The pilot successfully abandoned the Air Force fighter aircraft and was transferred to 251 WOMAN. At the GEA they breathed with relief in hearing the news that awakened memories of the loss of Captain Batsara, who fell to the same point in 2007. Eyewitnesses mentioned a parachute, which they saw on the horizon. The area of Psathura in Alonissos, where there is a firing range swept through the armed forces from air and sea. Indeed, a Super Puma helicopter stood up to go to the area and will immediately locate the pilot well in his health. In a communication issued by the GMP, it states: “On Wednesday 20 March 2024 at 13:29 a single-seat F-16 Block 52+ aircraft of 337 Squadron, 110 Battle Wing (PM) operating an educational flight, fell into the sea area of Psathouras. A search and rescue operation is under way for the operator. In the area speeds 1 Super Puma helicopter from 130 Combat Squadron, 1 Navy S-70 helicopter, 1 CL-415 from 113AM, heads to the area Fregate “Egyeon”, while being at maximum readiness 1 C-130″. According to MEGA, at one point the pilot found that his engine had a “holding” and therefore did not work well and it went off. The pilot then made all the planned procedures to restart him, and after all failed then he informed that he was leaving the aircraft with his landing being done successfully. MEGA secured footage of the rescue mobilisation organized, but luckily everything finally went well for the pilot. It is recalled that Lieutenant Evangelos Atmatzakis and Captain Basil Christidis died in Psathura on 22 January 1987, with this being the largest aircraft thriller in the region, as neither the fighter nor the fallen were found.
