Phd student of the Department of Music Science and Art University of Macedonia, greece, on Saturday, April 9, 2016, in the “Mars Γαρουφαλής” of the Conservatory of Athens.
The ordination mass celebrated by the Rector of the University of Macedonia, professor Achilles Ζαπράνης and the Chairman of the Department of Music Science and Art, associate professor Eugene Citizen, while the Commendation read by associate professor Athanasios Karagiannidis, who was a disciple of Charalambos Φαραντάτου. Greeting made at the beginning of the ceremony the director of the Conservatory of Athens, Nikos Athineos.
The room was full of people from university professors, from professors of Conservatories, by members of the Union of Greek Composers, maestros, and musicians, orchestras and bands, by students, students and a large number of former students of the honoree. Among others present were the president of the Hellenic Music Association, Vasilis Paraskevopoulos, as well as the former president and well-known composer and saxophonist, George Katsaros.
The Rector of the University of Macedonia in his speech, among others, spoke warmly in επιτίμους phd students of the Department of Music Science and Art, and congratulated the guest of honor for the timeless offer, as well as the Department for the decision to be proclaimed Charalambos Φαραντάτο an honorary doctorate.
The guest of honor, deeply touched, thanked the Department of Music Science and Art, and the University of Macedonia for his decision to award the highest academic honorary title, and the speech developed the theme “Music as a global language”, focusing on experiences from the music of the route.
Athanasios Karagiannidis, in his speech praised the work of mr Φαραντάτου while it was reported extensively in the artistic character and teaching of the offer, and completed his speech by pointing out, among other things: “in The difficult times that the country, personalities like Charalambos Φαραντάτος, it is more necessary, more useful than ever, because you exude self-denial and integrity, because they give us confidence, because they teach us good taste, because it illuminate the intellect, because it tapers the perception of us, why expand the inwardness. Our dear teacher, will you teach us and future generations with the values, with the offer, with the attitude of your life. You are worthy of the title of Honorary Doctorate of the Department of Music Science and Art University of Macedonia, greece. We congratulate you and thank you”.
Short curriculum vitae Charalambos Φαραντάτου
Charalambos Φαραντάτος was born in 1922 in Athens and spent his school years in Thessaloniki, due to professional obligations of his father.
He studied clarinet at the Conservatory of Athens and in 1951 was introduced following a test first in the class of clarinet at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris where he graduated in 1955 with honors and was again first in his class.
From 1938 and for a number of years played in the Orchestra of the Athens Conservatory, which follows μετεξελίχθητε in the Athens State Orchestra. From 1955 and for 35 years he served in the MET as a leading clarinetist and curator of the Orchestra.
Also, for a number of years he served as a leading clarinetist in the Orchestra of the Greek national Opera and the National Symphony Orchestra of ERT, and has been a soloist in individual recitals and chamber music concerts.
He was a founding member of the Quintet Woodwind and a member of the BOARD of directors of the Union of Contemporary Music.
As a clarinetist X. Φαραντάτος was notable for the gentleness of his sound and technical excellence.
From 1963 and for more than forty years he served as professor of clarinet and saxophone at the Conservatory of Athens from where he graduated countless and excellent soloist and μουσικοεκπαιδευτές of these organs.
