He continued to star next to some of Hollywood’s greatest stars during the 1970s and 1980s, including Ryan O’Neal and Barbra Streisand (“What’s Up, Doc?” of 1972), Paul Newman (1977 “Slap Shot”, Dustin Hoffman. When asked about his career in an earlier interview, Walsh had said: “I approach every job thinking it might be my last, so it better be the best possible job. I want to be remembered as a working actor. I get paid for what I wouldn’t do for anything.” “I don’t want to play the same character type 10 times,” Walsh told USA Today in 2015. “I want to be a garbage collector in a film and governor in the next. I got a degree in business administration and marketing,” he said about his study at Clarkson University in New York. “This background taught me to live modestly when I work, so that I can survive with my savings when things don’t go so well. I had friends of actors who made 10 times my money, but now they have nothing. I knew what to do with a dollar”.
