Earthquake 4.9 Richter in Dardanelia – Sensitive in Istanbul

magnitude 4.9 Richter occurred on Monday night (04/03/2024) in the Genitze region, in northwestern Turkey. The focal depth of the earthquake in Dardanelia in northwestern Turkey was located at 10.44 km. The earthquake, in addition to the Dardanelia and neighbouring prefectures, became felt in Constantinople, intensifying the concerns of residents, given the estimates of seismologists for an imminent major earthquake in the part of the breach of northern Anatolia that passes south of Constantinople in the Marmara Sea. The Natural Disasters and Emergency Situations Service (AFAD) has announced that workshops have launched on-site investigations to check if there is damage. No injuries or collapses have been reported at the moment. Turkey’s Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya, in a post on the X platform notes: “All AFAD teams and similar services have started on-site scans for the 4.9-degree earthquake that occurred in Genitze, Chanakale. The earthquake was also felt in neighbouring prefectures. There is no negative situation at the moment. We are watching developments.”
