Earth Time 2024: The Acropolis in the dark – “The Holy Rock has disappeared”

In the dark he sank for an hour or as part of the WWF initiative, to protect the planet. The Acropolis and all the monuments of Athens, which participate in the WWF campaign, Earth Time, turned off from 8:30 to 9:30 on Saturday night (23.03.2024) their lights. Hundreds of sights, monuments, institutions and businesses in Greece, as well as around the world, sank for an hour in the dark, sending a loud message to protect our planet. The initiative included, among other things, the Presidency of the Hellenic Republic, the sacred rock of the Acropolis, the temple of Hephaestus, the monument of Philopapus, the White Tower, the Temple of Poseidon in Sounio, Kallimarmaro, Amfissa Castle, the Cultural Centre “Stavros Niarchos Foundation”, the international airport “Eleftherios Venizelos”, as well as dozens of municipalities of the country. WWF’s global call For 60 minutes, WWF also sent this year a call to all people on Earth to devote 60 valuable minutes in order to implement simple, but substantial actions that will strengthen our relationship with nature. The WWF initiative, Earth Time, is celebrated for the 18th year. So at 8:30 p.m. we turned off the lights for an entire hour, in a symbolic move that highlights the need to protect the planet, our “common home”.
