Drone almost collided with a British Airways plane, performing the flight. Athens – London

The worst was avoided at the last minute on a flight running the London route, as a drone crossed the plane. According to a Daily Mail report, drone was illegally flying at 9,600 feet when the 180 passengers of British Airways flight from Athens were in danger. It all happened on the afternoon of January 3 at about 16:30 when the Airbus A321 aircraft was preparing to enter the final straight landing for Heathrow Airport. As noted by the UK Airprox Board, drone was found just 1.5 meters from the plane’s wing and 9 meters from the cockpit glass Daily Mail notes that in drones software there is a cutter to not be able to climb over 400 feet but there is an estimate that its unknown user had so far bypassed this restriction by adding from the internet and extra batteries. There’s no way the drone user just wanted to take pictures of planes. According to the UK Airprox Board report, the incident is considered Category A. This category includes high risk incidents for conflict. The text of the report describes that the pilot “conceived an object right of the plane’s nose. It was small but had the shape of the drone. This object was above the plane’s right wing. Details were immediately transferred to the Heathrow airport control tower with air traffic controllers informing the plane pilot behind that of British Airways.” The pilot, according to the report, estimated as “high” the risk of collision noting that the object was “extremely close” to the right side of Airbus A321.
