The experts are once again sounding the alarm of danger to the State, by associating directly the economic crisis with…
the mental health of citizens and the increase in the rates of suicide.
70% have grown in the years of recession in Greece, calls to the national helpline for suicide (1018), while 75% of the population, that displays some kind of psychopathology, does not receive any treatment for the problem.
In particular, suicides have increased to 5,2 per 100,000 population, compared with 2.8 in 2008, i.e. before the outbreak of the crisis, in research presented at a recent scientific conference with the theme: “The state of psychiatry of children and adolescents in Greece of crisis”.
According to experts, the figures show high correlation between the manifestation of desire, death and the emergence of severe psychopathology with unemployment. In particular, the nationwide survey certifies that one in six Greeks aged 18-70 years has developed clinically significant psychopathology, and one in twelve severe psychopathology!
The fields of Education, Health and Social Welfare are to a greater extent the negative consequences. All these contribute to a significant increase of psychiatric morbidity in the population.
As regards specifically the impact of the economic crisis in the minors, these are proving to be dangerous for children and adolescents, as well as one of the key mental derivatives of the economic deadlock is the widespread feeling of uncertainty and insecurity, which affect the behavior of the parents. The fear, the insecurity, the thymus, the nerves create a negative environment for the psycho-emotional development of children.
In the meantime, “harvest” and the strokes and in accordance with the relevant research of the Greek Foundation of Cardiology (in a sample of 45,000 persons) 45% of patients featuring unbearable, the cost of participation in the medication, while 12.9 percent indicate that it has stopped taking his meds.
In order to effectively address the pervasive social pathology in our country will have -among other things – to reduce unemployment, increase the standard of living and the educational level of the citizens, to enhance the social state, to provide opportunities to young people and to ensure the means for their achievement, to redefine the objectives of the new generation, to reduce the gap between rich and poor, to integrate the minority groups of the population, to support the institutions of family and school. In short you need to build a society of cohesion and solidarity, with equal opportunities for all.
No serious analyst can’t detach the above phenomena, of the widespread social pathology that is brought about in our country, the economic crisis and the accumulated problems that are being experienced every day -in a dramatic way – the average Greek family.
