Disney+ unveiled the first images from “Becoming Karl Lagerfeld”

It announced the long-awaited drama series of 6 episodes, “Becoming Karl Lagerfeld”, in production of Gaumont and Jour Premier. The original series will be available with all episodes, on June 7, exclusively on Disney+. In 1972, Karl Lagerfeld (Daniel Brühl) is 38 years old and has not yet adopted his iconic hairstyle. He is a fashion designer ready-to-wear, still unknown to the general public. While he knows and falls in love with Jacques de Bascher (Théodore Pelerin), an ambitious and troubled young dandy, the most mysterious fashion designer dares to oppose the friend, but also rival to Yves Saint Laurent (Arnaud Valois), a genius of high-spatch who receives support from controversial businessman Pierre Bergé (Alex Lutz). The series “Becoming Karl Lagerfeld”, dives into the heart of the ’70s, Paris, Monaco and Rome, to follow the flourishing of this complex and iconic personality of Parisian high sewing, which has supreme motivation to become the Emperor of Fashion. Between glamour, conflicts and egos, magnificent parties and destructive passion, discover Karl’s story before Lagerfeld. Karl Lagerfeld’s story, first transferred to the screen and is based on the best-seller, “Kaiser Karl”, by Raphaelëlle Bacqué (Albin Michel editions), brings together a unique cast. Actor Daniel Brühl (Nothing New in the West, Captain America: Civil War, Rush, Inglourious Basters, Good Bye, Lenin!) plays the fashionmaker, participates Théodore Pellerin (Continental Draft (South), Solo, Franklin, Beau is Afraid) as Jacques de Bascher and Arnaud Valois (most talented new actor at the Lumière Festival 2018, 120 BPM, Good Grief, The Girl on the Train, My Best Part, Spring Blossom) as Yves Saint Laurent. Alex Lutz (César for Best Actor in 2019, Molière in 2016 and 2020, Vortex, Guy, Romantique, Baron noir, Strangers by Night) plays Pierre Bergé. Agnès Jaoui (César for Best Supporting Actress in 1998, 2001 and 2016, Honorary César in 2024, Î l’Ombre des filles, En Thérapie, The Sweet Escape, The Taste of Others) plays Gabrielle Aghion, the founder of the Chloé fashion house that contributed significantly to his reputation. Jérôme Salle (Kompromat, Totems, The Odyssey, Zulu, Anthony Zimmer) holds the reins of this long series, directing episodes 1, 2 and 6, while sharing the role of executive producer with Jour Premier’s Arnaud de Crémiers. Episodes 3, 4 and 5 are directed by Audrey Estrougo (Everything’s Fine, Suprêmes). Isaure Pisani-Ferry (Ganglands, Vampires, Kaboul Kitchen) is the creator of the series, along with Jennifer Have (Unfaithful, The Red Band Society) and Raphaëlle Bacqué. Isaure Pisani-Ferry is the screenwriter of the series, with Dominique Baumard (Le Jeune imam, Ganglands, The Bureau), Jennifer Have and Nathalie Hertzberg (The Goldman Case). The series also highlights all the personalities of fashion and culture of the time, who had a close relationship with Karl Lagerfeld. Jeanne Damas, a fashion designer and actress in the films “La Sincérité” and “Rock’n Roll”, plays Paloma Picasso and singer, songwriter and model Claire Laffut, Loulou de La Falaise. In the role of legendary actress Marlene Dietrich, she is Sunnyi Melles, winner of a Golden Phoenix in 2022 for “Triangle of Sadness”. Andy Warhol is played by Paul Spera (On the Line, On the Basis of Sex, Marie-Antoinette). The cast complements German actress Lisa Kreuzer, as the mother of Karl, Elisabeth Lagerfeld. The music of the series has been edited by Evgueni and Sacha Galperine (Ousskine, By the Grace of God, The Undoing, Baron noir, The Night Doctor, Happening, Scene from a Marriage). The series “Becoming Karl Lagerfeld”, was created at the urging of Christophe Riandee, Vice CEO and lead producer Sidonie Dumas. The series is a production of Isabelle Degeorges for Gaumont and Arnaud de Crémiers for Jour Premier. The first two episodes of the series will premiere at the Cannes Festival.
