Statistical Office recorded for the month of June in persons 15-24 years (47,7% June 2016 from 48,2% in June 2015) and 25-34 years old (29,5% from 31.7%). The following are the age groups 35-44 years (19,5% 22,8%), 45-54 years old (19,4% 19,7%), 55-64 years (19,3% 16,5%) and 65-74 years (12,4% 12,3%).
The distribution of unemployment, taking into account the level of education, shows that the highest unemployment rate is observed in those who have finished only a few classes of Elementary school (46,2%). The lowest rates are observed in those who have a phd or master’s degree (11.3%) and graduates of higher education (18,4%).
Of the total unemployed who are seeking paid employment in Thessaly, the 12% seeking exclusively full-time employment, while 83.3% seeking full, but is prepared to work with a partial employment. 4.7% or seek part-time employment either doesn’t care if you find a part-time or full-time employment.
The data show that workers ages 55 to 64 years old are taking the road of dismissal to recruit others with lower fees.
At the level of Decentralized Administrations in the first three places with the highest rates of unemployment are Epirus – Western Macedonia (to 26.8% in June 2016 from 27,1% in June 2015), Thessaly – central Greece (25,8% 26,3%) and the Peloponnese – Western Greece – Ionian Islands (23,8% 25,1%). Follow, the Macedonia – Thrace (23,1% 25,3%), Attica (22,3% 24,8%), Crete (22,3% 24,2%) and the Aegean (18,8% 17,8%).
The economically non-active population (people who are not working i.e. not seeking work) decreased compared with June 2015 (a reduction of 0.8%) and by 0.3% compared to May 2016.
In women, the unemployment rate (27,8% June 2016 from 28,8% in June 2015) remains significantly higher than that in men (19,8% 21,8%).
