Childless couple has a baby by artificial insemination with DNA of three people

Childless couple from…
Ukraine, who faced infertility problems, has a baby with the new method of in vitro fertilization with three parents”.
According to the BBC, cited by the Times, doctors in Kiev have used it for the first time in the world this method, if the baby is the first born from the DNA of three parents.
The child was born on 5 January and is believed to be the second baby in the world born with the method of the three parents. The first was born last year in Mexico using a a little different method, but again with three “parents”.
This technique was developed to help parents who are at risk of carrying serious genetic disorders to their children, specifically mitochondrial diseases.
The hours a mother with a non-healthy mitochondria are collected together with those of a donor with healthy mitochondria. The babies that result have the DNA of three people, the father, the mother, and in a small percentage of the donor.
The clinic Nadiya in Kiev, however, use this technique to obtain a couple that was not a question of mitochondrial disease but infertility.
The doctor Valery Zukin, who heads the project, says that watching a pregnant woman, with this method, you will give birth in March.
In Britain adopted the use of the method for couples with mitochondrial diseases, but still there’s no baby born that was captured with this technique of ivf.
“The science is new and controversial and raises ethical questions, such as how can a kid feels that carry DNA from three people,” writes the BBC. Professor Adam Balen, head of the British society of Fertility declares: “The method of προπυρηνικής transfer is experimental and has not been adequately assessed nor documented scientifically. We will be very cautious in the adoption of this approach for improving the results of artificial insemination”.
