Charles Michel: EU needs to invest more in defence industry

The need for the European Union to invest more in the defence industry and to ensure that there is more cooperation at European level, the President of the European Council stressed at a Euronews event in Brussels. At this event Charles Michel was asked about an opinion article published in the European press and in which he said that “we should be ready as the EU for defence and turn to a “economy” of war.” He also noted that citizens should know that “we are facing a serious threat by Russia’s decision to invade Ukraine. He also stressed that the EU did what it had to do immediately, supported Ukraine, imposed sanctions on Russia, but more needs to be done. Finally, the President of the European Council noted that at the forthcoming summit an effort will be made to make concrete steps to provide more military equipment in Ukraine, more financial support and even more pressure on Moscow if necessary.
