Eleftherios Venizelos has been a great leader and we are proud to come from our homeland Crete. He is the politician who created patriotic liberalism, doubled Greece, set the principles for a modern rule of law. So was his son Sophocles, a moderate politician who also left a large political footprint. We owe them a lot and we owe them a living memory and a conscience.” On his part, the mayor of Chania Panayiotis Imandrakis said: “The annual memorial of Eleftherios and Sophocles Venizelos, is an opportunity to reflect on the modern course of Greece, their achievements the disasters and how Greece can choose, plan and succeed. The greatest Greek politician Eleftherios Venizelos has left us a legacy that we owe through our actions and decisions to honor and exalt.” Constantine Zorbas General Manager of the Orthodox Academy of Crete, spoke about a special day for the place, for Crete for Greece. “The spirit of Eleftherios Venizelos lies in our hearts, it is what should guide our actions, policies of all people, of all politicians, for a future with certainty, for a future based on respect for human dignity, for a future that respects above all man, the natural environment and the world.” In its statements, the Secretary of State spoke about the area of education and the concerns that exist regarding changes in higher education and foreign universities in our country and the occupations continuing at certain universities. As he said: “The government has taken an initiative which will now be implemented by the state. The occupations are not many, they go downhill. In any case, the effort of the Greek government and our ministry is in line with what we were campaigning for and we must implement. Attention is now focused on the proper working out of proposals from foreign universities. The standards are so strict, the strictest ones in Europe. They are all discussed when establishing and operating foreign branches of foreign universities, which are not of a speculative nature. I’m sure there are few reactions apparently from people who didn’t study the law. When they see the multiple benefits, reactions will be bent. Our goal is for foreign parties to operate from the next school season.”
