Champions League: UEFA presented the new format for the season 2024-25

It radically changes it from the new season and the presents in each country the new format, which includes 36 teams in a single championship in Europe. The UEFA Executive Committee was found in Greece to explain how the Champions League will be held in the new season, responding to a number of relevant questions. UEFA’s explanations for the new Champions League How will the Champions League’s format change from 2021–25? The key change in reforms announced by the UEFA Executive Committee is to abandon the current group phase system. The current Champions League group phase includes 32 participating teams divided into eight groups of 4 teams each. As of the 2021–25 season, 36 clubs will participate in the former Champions League group phase, giving four other teams the opportunity to compete with Europe’s best clubs. These 36 clubs will participate in a single league, in which all 36 competing clubs will be ranked in the same single score. With the new scheme, teams will play 8 games in the new league phase (former group phase). They will no longer face three opponents twice (within and away) but face 8 different teams, playing four games inside and four away. To identify the 8 different opponents, teams will initially be classified into four capacity groups of nine teams each. Each team will then be drawn to face two opponents from each of these four groups (and their own capacity group for the first time), playing a game inside and one away against each team from the same capacity group. This gives clubs the opportunity to test themselves against a wider spectrum of opponents and increases the prospect for fans to see the top teams compete more frequently and earlier in the event. The result will also be more competitive matches for all clubs in all positions of the single score. How will the four additional positions be allocated in the Champions League group phase? The qualification for the Champions League will continue to be open and will depend on the club’s final position in organizing the previous season’s domestic championship, combined with the position of each federation in the national federation’s association factor ranking. The basis of the entry list will remain the same as the current season and the four additional positions available from 2021/25 (out of 32 out of 36 teams) will be allocated as follows: First place: This position goes to the third team of the fifth country championship in UEFA Ranking, which will no longer participate in the qualifiers, but will have direct participation. Second place: An additional ticket will be in the qualification process of European championship champions. By now from Champions Path qualified, through four qualifying rounds, four champions, since the new season these positions become five. Third and fourth place: These positions go to the federations with the best collective performance of their teams the previous season (i.e. the highest federation rate of the previous season, which is based on the total number of points that each club achieved from a federation divided by the number of clubs that represented it in European events). These two federations will each win an additional direct position in the new Champions League, compared to those normally entitled. How will teams reach the knockout phase of the Champions League and the knockout format what will change? The result of each match will judge the final ranking of the new league, with three points for the win and one for the draw. The first eight teams of the single score will qualify automatically for the 16 phase, while the teams that finish from 9th to 24th place will compete in double knockout playoff matches to ensure their place in the 16th stage of the event. Teams that will finish from 25th to 36th place are excluded without moving to UEFA Europa League. The new form, with all teams ranked together in a league, will mean that there will be many critical encounters until the last race of the first phase. In the knockout phase, teams between 9th and 16th place will face a team that finished between 17th and 24th, with the second match at their headquarters. The eight teams that will prevail in the knockout phase playoffs will pass to the 16 phase, where each will face one of the first eight teams, which have already qualified to the 16 phase. To strengthen synergy between the first phase of the single league and the knockout phases and to have even greater motivation in the first phase the knockout phase couples will be determined in part by the position they occupied in the first phase, with a draw which will eventually shape the way through the final. From the 16th phase, the event will continue to follow the existing form of knockout, leading to the neutral headquarters of the final, selected by UEFA. All matches before the final will continue to be played mid-week, recognizing the importance of the national racing calendar throughout Europe, while the final will continue to be held Saturday. Will the forms of the Europa League and the Europa Conference League change from 2021-25? Yeah. Similar format changes will also apply to the Europa League (8 matches and therefore 8 different opponents in the league phase) and the UEFA Europa Conference League, which from 2021–25 will be called UEFA Conference League (6 matches and therefore 6 different opponents in the league phase), with the two competitions including 36 teams in the league phase. How will the calendar be in the new form of three games? The first phase games of the Champions League and the Europa League will take place between September and January, while the first phase games of the Europa Conference League will take place between September and December. Each of the three UEFA club events will have an exclusive week of holding the race, during which no games of the other two events will be scheduled. In the remaining weeks, Champions League matches will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, while Europa League and Europa Conference League matches will be held on Thursday. In the exclusive week of the Champions League, Champions League games will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. In the exclusive week of the Europa League, the Europa League games will be held on Wednesday and Thursday. In the exclusive week of the Europa Conference League, the Europa Conference League games will be held on Thursday. The last race of the first phase in all three events will be held at the same time. How will the new Champions League benefit fans? The new form of league will include more European teams in each event and allow fans not only to see more important European games, but also to see them held earlier in the event. The new format will introduce a better competitive balance between all teams, with each team being able to face rivals of a similar level of racing throughout the single league. Every fight counts. The new league format will ensure that any result can shape a team’s position, up to the last race. Winning or losing the last match of the league phase could mean the difference between automatic qualification in the 16 phase, access to playoffs or exclusion from the event. How will the new form of Champions League benefit European football? The changes made are designed to ensure a positive future for European football at all levels and to meet the evolving needs of all stakeholders. Confirming undoubtedly the joint commitment to the principle of open competition and sports value across the continent, the common goal was also to support national championships. As mentioned earlier, the new landscape of UEFA club events allows more teams and therefore more coaches and football players to compete in more competitive matches on the European stage. UEFA also confirmed its strong financial commitment to European football as a whole and that it would take steps to ensure solidarity for clubs not participating in UEFA club events. This will strengthen the powerful structure on which the game is based in Europe. How did the Champions League change over the years? The timetables of the Champions League and the Europa League show more detailed how each event evolved, from the beginnings of the European Champions Teams Cup, which began in 1955, the UEFA Cup and the UEFA Cup of Cups and more recently in the forms of the UEFA male collective events that exist today.”
