Catalonia: Early elections after budget approval failed

The will hold early May 12th, after the separatist minority government failed to approve its budget proposal to the regional parliament. The elections in Catalonia were originally scheduled for February 2025 at the end of the current legislative period. Early elections may have implications for national politics as socialist Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez is based on Catalan separatist parties to pass laws. The move comes on the eve of the vote in the Lower House in Madrid on a bill granting amnesty to pro-independence activists and officials involved in Catalonia’s separatist bid over the past decade. The bill is widely expected to be approved.
