Bus driver ran his mobile at the wheel

His look stuck on his phone screen and not on the street, as he should have had one in Athens. Bus passenger of line 022 in the Hive area sent Live News videos with the driver, being committed to his mobile. With the vehicle moving for 30 seconds, as shown in the video, without the driver’s hands at the wheel. On one hand, it keeps the mobile guard on and on the other “scatching” the screen. During 35 seconds of video the driver’s mobile phone is permanently on the wheel. The driver periodically leans with his right hand on the bus and stops at the intersection. Even there, the device remains at the wheel. He controls the road and shortly afterwards leaves it beside him. As passengers report, they happened to see these images that lasted 30 seconds, because they were near the driver. That Tuesday, a few days ago, the bus was crowded, waiting to reach its destination. The road is slippery from the rain and the driver is careless. Those seconds certainly did not imagine that some would record what he did during the journey. These images come to be added to the chain of a series of similar planets presented by Live News and show how some perceive the work and the responsibility they have in their hands. At first, as the video shows, the driver speeds up the way of the Hive. “A professional driver should not be employed with anything else during driving,” said Fotis Nikolakopoulos, secretary general of OASY. The speed and slipperyness of the road make many think about what could have happened in the event of a sudden and unexpected obstacle. “The safety of the passenger public is a non-negotiable priority of O.S.A. Under the regulation and the administrative directives, any act creating a security issue is not acceptable and falls under the prescribed Disciplinary Procedure. In addition, by decision of the Director, as provided for in the Statute, the person responsible is immediately suspended,” says the OCSY. The driver who solved a crossword puzzle The new case came two months after the bus driver incident with a crossword puzzle on the bus’s steering wheel, on a road in Kifissia. With his right hand he holds the pen and with his left hand the crossword puzzle. With sunglasses and presbyopia glasses to see close, with passengers wondering and himself for a few seconds to continue. These images had simply come to frame a number of others in the recent past, with similar unauthorised behaviors. With the mobile phone on the steering wheel, with the cigarette on and in Rethymno in 2020, the driver would have “terminated” it with his feet cross-legged. To the criminal mistakes of some, the tragic situation of the majority of buses moving with millions of kilometers and damage that service can no longer solve. “Driving at night is more dangerous,” said OASY. “I don’t know who he is but he has made a mistake. In order to initiate disciplinary proceedings the complainant must make a report to OASA but this is not done most of the time. There is the competent department and there is no bureaucracy,” commented F. Nikolakopoulos. The bus driver 022 is expected to be called for explanations. As it seems despite the complaints and despite the penalties imposed, some are not intimidated by the responsibility they deserve and seem not to have realized that such behaviour can lead to accidents at the wheel. “It was enough time with his mobile” Passenger of the bus described on Live News the route as well as the driver’s stop. “Tuesday afternoon, at 7 and 10, at 022 to New Kipseli, the driver was dealing with his phone how long. I was only 30 seconds able to record because of the world. It was packed, it’s a small bus. He was so lost in his world and once we stopped he opened the doors normally and came down because it was a terminal. Thank God we’re home. Nobody made any comment. We were young people ahead, behind some other older people didn’t understand what happened, between us we understood it and said: “Let it all go well,” he initially said. In conclusion, he stressed: “It was enough time to deal with his cell phone and open and close with the case, but he continued, that is, he had no problem and obviously it wouldn’t be the first time he did it. I say: “to go, whatever is to be done, done”. It is possible to pass an SAD if it is taken from its duties, to save no human life.”
