Biden: I declare March 25 as National Day of Celebration of the Hellenic and American Republic

In his message on the Greek Independence Day declaration, he noted that the United States and the United States were timeless on the same side of history, as they defended the common values of democracy and freedom. American President Joe Biden stressed that Greek-American relations are at a historically high level. As he said, the two countries remain loyal to this historical trust and are on the same track as they continue to continue to work closely to support Ukraine. Finally, President Biden drew the praise to the Greek-American community, detailing its multi-shaft influence and contribution to the events of American society. President Biden’s Declaration on the Day of Greek Independence “As today, more than 200 years ago, rebels throughout Greece rose up for freedom and declared their independence from the Ottoman Empire. Today, we honor the legacy of those courageous Greek and Greek women and we recommit to the purpose of freedom and democracy for all. Throughout our common history, the peoples of Greece and the United States are connected through the common belief that the power of shaping our fate must be in our hands. All generations of Americans and Greeks together make these words come true. We saw it during World War II, when both nations fought the forces of fascism. We saw it during the Cold War when our peoples stood together to prevail against communism. We see it today, as Greece and America stand together next to a coalition of more than 50 nations to support the brave people of Ukraine, as they struggle for the same values as the Greek rebels had over 200 years ago: freedom and independence. Today, the cooperation, alliance and friendship shared by Greece and the United States are stronger than ever – largely due to the courage and character of the Greek-American community. From the defence of social justice and the promotion of civil rights to the effort to make our nation more free and fair, Greek Americans have pushed our country forward, lighting the flame of freedom that first flared up in Athens thousands of years ago. Throughout my career, I had the fortune to see this heart, hope and commitment in person and I drew inspiration from Greek American friends, families, leaders and political mentors. Today and every day, let us celebrate the inextricable bonds of friendship shared by the United States and the Hellenic Republic. Let us continue to draw strength from the ideas and example that our two countries set. Guided by our highest hopes and ideals, let us re-commit for the preservation, defence and protection of democracy – together. Now, therefore, I Joseph R. Biden, President of the United States of America, under the authority conferred upon me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, hereby declare on March 25, 2024, as the Day of Greek Independence: National Day of Celebration of the Hellenic and American Republic. I call on the people of the United States to honor this day with appropriate ceremonies and activities.”
