Bank of Greece: Tourism receipts increased by 27.1% in January

Enhanced tourist receipts due to their increased movement in our country recorded or in January, with Americans, Germans and French showing their strong preference in Greece. Specifically, according to the data of the Bank of Greece, the number of travelers who visited our country in January reached 737,3 thousand. This development resulted in revenue from tourism rising by 27.1% compared to the corresponding month of 2023, as they were set at EUR 278.3 million, compared with EUR 219.0 million respectively. More specifically, airport travel increased by 11.7% compared to January 2023 and this through 24.8% road border stations. The increase in incoming travel traffic stemmed both from the rise in travel from EU-27 countries by 24.9% and from countries outside the EU-27 by 8.3%. More specifically, the travel traffic from the euro area countries was set at 254.7 thousand travellers, increased by 21.2%, while the travel traffic from the EU-27 countries outside the euro area also rose by 34.4%, to 112.8 thousand travellers. In particular, travel from Germany increased by 8.6% and was formed by 70.2 thousand travellers, while France increased by 35.4% and was formed by 42.6 km. Travelers. With regard to countries outside the EU-27, travel from the United Kingdom decreased by 39.2% and was shaped as 36.2 million travellers, while this from the US was formed as 54.6 thousand travellers, increased by 260.2%. Finally, there was no travel traffic from Russia. With regard to revenues an increase of 63.3% showed receipts from residents of EU-27 countries, which amounted to EUR 149.0 million, while receipts from non-EU-27 residents increased by 1.0% (January 2024: EUR 126,5 million, January 2023: EUR 125.2 million). The rise in receipts from EU-27 residents was the result of an increase in receipts from euro area residents by 49.6% (January 2024: EUR 115,5 million, January 2023: EUR 77.2 million), as well as an increase in revenues from EU-27 residents outside the euro area by 138.8%, to EUR 33.5 million. In particular, with regard to the most important countries of origin of travellers from the euro area, receipts from Germany increased by 34.7% and amounted to EUR 29.0 million, while receipts from France increased by 83.0% and were set at EUR 20.0 million. Of the countries other than the EU-27, an 8.1% increase in revenues from the United Kingdom, which amounted to 20.0 million euros, as well as revenues from the US, which increased by 63.6% and amounted to 23.1 million euros. Finally, no receipts were received from Russia.
