At the height of the cost of repairing damage in Thessaly – At 4.5 billion euros the flood and basic infrastructure

At… Pharaonic levels, at least for Greek data, over 4.5 billion euros will reach their cost of rehabilitation in its region from last year’s bad weather “Daniel” and “Elias”. The cost of repairing the damage of Thessaly will be at the “high”, if the proposals of the Dutch company HVA are taken into account, according to the plan submitted, and the infrastructure projects launched by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport. Obviously, by the time the interventions are ‘locked’, the final account may change, however, it is a reality that many funds are needed but also… funding, which is a ‘print’. In particular, the Dutch company HVA has proposed flood protection projects over a period of 15 years of EUR 3.3 billion, while the cost of repairing the damage suffered by the road and rail networks, interventions undertaken by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, has reached EUR 1.35 billion, of which 900 million concern road network interventions (over 450 million the railway). So it is understood that the budget required for the recovery of Thessaly, along with the diversion of Acheloos, which has come back as a proposal from the past, exceeds or is estimated at around EUR 4.5 billion. The final decision that the Greek state will be asked to make, setting its own priorities, may reduce the budget, as several Dutch HVA International proposals provide alternative scenarios or perhaps some solutions will not be feasible. For example, as regards Lake Carla, the extension scenario has an estimated cost of EUR 161 million, while the non-expansion of EUR 116 million. Among other things, the Dutch propose extensive flood management measures in affected areas to protect farmland and residential areas. With the construction of approximately 100 to 250 dams (check dams) in the smaller valleys, ravines and streams, the large flow of water from mountain areas to the lowlands where farmland and settlements dominate, it is estimated that it will decrease. At the same time, flood infrastructure will be needed in the lowlands, which will consist mainly of river mounds and secondary internal mounds. More… mature and cost-effective are infrastructure rehabilitation projects. The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport shows that the drafting of tenders for the competitions for road infrastructure restoration projects in Thessaly, amounting to EUR 900 million, is progressing. The aim is to finalise the competitions by the end of June, so that competitions can come out in direct procedures.
