Arresting 43-year-old for “piracy” of subscription channels

To a 43-year-old man, the EL.A. went on following a complaint against him about subscription channels and advertising his services online. The defendant for ‘piracy’ was arrested by the Electronic Crime DEA, against which a case was formed for violating intellectual property law and for the protection of subscription services, continuously. His arrest took place last Tuesday 12 March 2024. According to ELAS data, an unknown person was making an illegal live transmission of subscription television channels, without permission, while advertising his services online, for a financial fee in the form of a subscription. The above was taken into account by the Athens Court of First Instance and a preliminary examination was ordered. Following an investigation and analysis of the resulting digital data, the 43-year-old’s involvement in the case was established. An investigation followed at his home in an area of Attica, in the presence of a judicial officer, found the use of unauthorised equipment and the retransmission of content of two subscription companies, without legal assistance and permission. In particular, from the investigation, they were found and seized: a mobile phone, with a customer-subsidiaries (panel), 2 IPTV Android Box, which were properly modified for the retransmission of subscription television channels and hard drives and USB stick. The arrester was taken to the competent prosecutor and referred to an Inquisitor, while the confiscated digital evidence will be sent to the Criminal Investigation Division for laboratory examination.
