Bacchus and Ariadne on Naxos, board of Titian.
On the way back to Athens, Theseus and his companions made a stop at the island of Naxos. There, in the dream of Theseus appeared, the god Dionysus and told him that he had to leave the island without Ariadne, as it was meant to stay there and be his wife. Ariadne stayed on Naxos and married the god Dionysus, and so developed the worship of a goddess of the island. Dionysus (or Venus or the Hours) earned her a golden wreath, a work of Hephaestus, and he brought it with him to Olympus. The mortal Ariadne arrived so to become immortal spouse god.
Local variants of the myth
Ariadne particularly venerated in some places, and islands: Crete, Naxos, Delos, Cyprus, and in Attica and the Peloponnese, which indicates that he was worshipped as a deity of the Aegean and more generally of the Eastern Mediterranean (Ariadne < Αριάγνη = holy). In the temple of Κρήσιου Dionysus (the Cretan ie. Dionysus) in Argos stated that there was a clay urn with the ashes of Ariadne. In Delos once again, in a well-established ceremony, young men and women danced in memory of the salvation of the Athenian youth from the Minotaur.

On this island Theseus had dedicated a gift of the Ariadne, a figurehead of Venus, the work of Daedalus, in Pausanias (IX, 40, 3-4): the had dedicated to Apollo in order to forget her love for him. In Cyprus, according to the local tradition, Theseus was off pregnant Ariadne and when, after a storm has managed to return he found her dead.
In remembrance of this event were held in Cyprus festivals where a young man lying on a bed reminded me of the voices of the woman giving birth. Near there, in a forest, there was a sanctuary of Ariadne Αφροδισίας and, supposedly, the grave of Ariadne.

In Attica the cult of Ariadne was united with that of Dionysos at the festivals of Οσχοφορίων, the establishment of which was attributed to Theseus. More closely, of course, every other part was connected to Ariadne to Naxos, where it is venerated the pair Ariadne-Dionysus. The people of Naxos believed that Ariadne had died there, and that Dionysus had two children, and Stafylo oinopiona. According to other traditions, the Ariadne had children and with him Theseus, and took its place in the firmament in the constellation of the Northern Stephen.
