And yet, these are the most “dirty” fruit and vegetables

One of the most delicious and nutritious fruits of the spring are considered to be…
strawberries. However, in accordance with the list of the most “dirty” fruit and vegetables that publishes every year the organization Environmental Working Group (EWG) will have to think twice before
empty that bowl of delicious red fruit.
This is because strawberries are probably -more than any other fresh fruit contaminated with pesticide residues even when cleaned and packed.
The EWG reports that the average American consumes 3.5 pounds of fresh strawberries each year. The problem is that these fruits contain chemical substances ‘associated with cancers and infertility, or that are banned in Europe”.
The organization recommends to eat strawberries -and the rest of the fruits included in “the Dirty Dozen” – when they are products of organic farming.
The list has been drawn up on the basis of data from the u.s. government that show what products they collect larger quantities of pesticides.
The “Dirty Dozen”
1. Strawberries
2. Apples
3. Nectarines
4. Peaches
5. Celery
6. Grapes
7. Cherries
8. Spinach
9. Tomatoes
10. Peppers
11. Cherry tomatoes
12. Cucumbers
In contrast, the “Pure Δεκαπεντάδα” includes products with smaller concentrations of pesticides.
The “Clean Δεκαπεντάδα”
1. Avocado
2. Corn
3. Pineapple
4. Cabbage
5. Frozen peas
6. Onions
7. Asparagus
8. Mango
9. Papaya
10. Kiwi
11. Eggplant
12. Melon χάνεϊντιου
13. Grapefruit
14. Melon Cantaloupe
15. Cauliflower
The EWG points out that two kinds of products, green leafy vegetables such as kale (cale) and the παραπούλια and hot peppers do not belong exactly to the “Dirty Dozen” but “often contaminated with pesticides toxic to the nervous system of man”.
However, the “Dirty Dozen” the EWG is of questionable reliability and is the subject of a dispute with the Alliance for Food and Farming to support that the remains discovered in foods “do not pose a risk for food” in the united states.
