More than 100 passengers who were traveling from Santander to Madrid found themselves in the middle of nowhere, when the driver of the train stopped on the course because over the shift.
In particular, the engineer from Spain, he abandoned the train, and the 109 passengers on board, halfway, on Tuesday evening, outside the village of Osorno, two hours after the departure of the train from Santander to a destination in Madrid.
A representative of police told local MEDIA that, “The driver said he had finished his shift and there was no replacement, so he stopped the train and disembarked.”
One of the 109 passengers, reported the newspaper El Diario Montanes that initially it was announced that the train stopped because of a technical problem. “Fifteen minutes later we were informed that the driver stopped the train because he had finished his shift,” he said.
For those passengers heading to nearby destinations were more fortunate, as they continued their journey by bus, however, many were those who were forced to wait several hours in order to reach the bus that transported them to Madrid, which is 200 km away.
A representative of the company stated that it would hold an inquiry for the incident, though he asked for and apologize to passengers for the inconvenience suffered. “Such incidents are not common in our company, it is the obligation of the driver to notify us of any changes or replacements”, he said.
From the side of the representative of the syndicate of workers in the railway said that “there should be another driver who will replace the shift change, which was not the case. We have seen many times in the past incidents.”
